Superman, all about him?
Following his titanic struggle against General Zod, Metropolis has been razed to the ground and Superman is the most controversial figure in the world. While for many he is still an emblem of hope, a growing number of people consider him a threat to humanity, seeking justice for the chaos he has brought to Earth. As far as Bruce Wayne is concerned, Superman is clearly a danger to society. He fears for the future of the world with such a reckless power left ungoverned, and so he dons his mask and cape to right Superman’s wrongs. The rivalry between them is furious, fueled by bitterness and vengeance, and nothing can dissuade them from waging this war. However, a dark new threat arises in the form of a third man: one who has a power greater than either of them to endanger the world and cause total destruction. But that is just the movie synopsis. I watched this movie and let me tell you what I think.
Team batman en Wonder Woman
I have to admit that I am a Batman fangirl and I adore Wonder Woman. I am not a big fan of superman, he somehow does not appeal to me. But when watching the movie he did make me smile, just 15 minutes into the movie I saw such an amazing scene. How Clark Kent got into the bathtub with his cloths to kiss Lois Lane. Two off my least favorite characters and they nailed this scene. I tought it was romantic. I felt happy watching their relationship on the screen because it did not show a weak woman and a strong man in that moment. It showed two people that are in love. I was kind of sad that when the movie progressed Lois Lane played by Amy Adams turned into a sniveling non powerful woman who only went after her superman and constantly needed saving. The first time Superman saved her was kind of romantic. I admit I liked that. But after that it was just a damsel in distress kind of feel and that is not something that I want to see in 2016.
Wonder Woman was the greatest character in this movie and she was not a lot in it. She had 16 lines and still she got the biggest fangirl reaction out of me. Gal Gadot played Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman and she did it in a sexy leather outfit with a shield and sword. Online I read some critics saying that they could not take her serieus in her outfit. I am not hating the outfit, I think it is a good design with the corset, skirt and boots. Is it traditional wonder woman? No. But I like it especially the headpiece. In the small part that she played Diana was a badass, not playing the poor weak woman. I can not wait for her movie, lets admit her part was kind of a preview for her movie. I am fucking excited for that, we need more girlpower DC and Marvel! I am kind of rooting for Diana to not have a love interest in her movie and just be a single independent woman.
It is a fast paced movie, a lot is happening but not a lot of explaining. And I like that. I mean I do not want to hear how superman got to earth or how the relationship started. I did not want an explanation how Batman lost his parents, just seeing small fragments in the beginning set the tone. It shows us moments without having to explain and that is what I adore. But if you are not a superhero fan and do not know a lot of batman and superman I am pretty sure you will find most of it confusing. Also the flash backs and flash forwards might be confusing. So I would advice watching this movie again and again till you get it.
It was dark and I love that. No happy “We are hero’s and in love and crack jokes” kind of movie. Lots of hurt, action and hate. It was mostly a superman movie in my eyes, I would have prefered to see more story-line to the damn sexy Ben Afflec who played Batman aka Bruce Wayne. Especially since he brings a lot of darkness to the movie. But I think the way he ended the movie was amazing. It had me clinging to my seat and making ‘ohhhhhh, ahhhh’ sounds all the scene.
The music is dramatic and really hits you. I mean I get emotional at movies, a good movie really hits me hard. And the music plays a big part in it, it sets the tone. And I personally feel that Batman vs Superman really sets a mood with the music used. But also the camera work is powerful. Slowmotion and different camera angles keeps you interested trough the whole movie.
And let me tell you. I cried. I cried a lot during the end of this movie. The moment that Superman gave his live, the moment that the “Martha-moment” happend…and most of all the bagpipes goddammit. Tears where streaming down my face and I had goosebumps all over me. Those fucking bagpipes are beautiful. Good work Hans Zimmer en Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL for bringing the most beautiful music to this movie.
I am a fan of these kind of movies but I can see some people getting confused with it. But it is very beautiful movie to see.
